Commerce Minister Diggs wants critical review of allocation of Donor funding…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Commerce Minister Mawine Diggs has called for critical review of the allocation of donor funding to Liberia.

Madam Diggs said:” While Liberia welcomes partnership with the donor community, there must be honest exchanges and flexibility in operation to truly support the agenda of the nation.”

She decried the level of bureaucracies in the approval and procurement process, and the excessive control over donor funded projects.

The Commerce Minister said:” Such control often reduces the impact of the project, while subsequently it often shifts the pressure back to government who has limited control but is yet held accountable for the dollar value of such projects.”

According to her, on the average, it takes half of a presidential term to get a donor funded project signed , implemented and completed , urging that such bottlenecks need to be looked at critically.

Madam Mawine Diggs spoke during the July 26, 2022 Independence Day celebration, when she served as the 175th National Independence Day Orator.
