Nat’l Port Authority expresses sadness over death of Valentine Johnson

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Management of the National Port Authority (NPA) has expressed sadness over the unfortunate death of Valentine Johnson.

Johnson was allegedly shot dead by an Agent of the Executive Protection Service (EPS), Patrick Kollie, one of the security guards assigned with NPA Managing Director Bill Twehway.

An NPA released issued recently said Mr. Twehway extended profound condolences to the bereaved family and called for speedy investigation into the matter, to ensure justice is served.

The NPA said why it regrets the situation; Agent Kollie was not on duty with the Managing Director when the incident occurred.

According to the release, the NPA Boss had gone on a routine weekend visit to River Cess County, while Agent Patrick Kollie was in Monrovia based on an excuse to attend to personal engagement.

According to reports, Agent Kollie had disembarked his vehicle instructing suspected criminals who had erected a roadblock to remove the blockade and the man believed to be the gang leader ordered him disarmed.

Agent Kollie said he was then attacked, and while in the struggle to disarm him, his hand mistakenly pulled the trigger of his arm, thereby discharging one round at his back.

He said they were in a fight over his arm when it discharged, not knowing that the deceased was at the back riding a motorbike along with two other unidentified people.

The Liberia National Police is currently investigating the incident.
