By: Correspondent Moses Geply in Maryland

Monrovia, June 21, 2022 – The National Identification Registry (NIR) has embarked on a pilot project that will allow for the issuance of free national identification cards to citizens in Maryland County.

The project, which will be implemented over the next 14 days in Maryland, targets a special group of citizens in the age range of 18 years and above.

In an interview with ELBC at the Harper City Hall Tuesday, National Identification Registry Team Lead Henry Thompson said the endeavor is the government’s initiative intended to give a targeted group of people access to citizens ID cards.

Thompson said the process will set the basis for the enrollment into the national data base and also business and cross border movement of citizens in the southeast.

“This process is expected to allow for the possible use of the national identification card as an acceptable travel document within the southeastern part of Liberia and the neighboring ivory coast” Mr. Thompson added.

Citizens queue up for the exercise

For their several beneficiaries who spoke with our Maryland County correspondent, Moses Geply loaded the efforts of the government for such a huge endeavor.

According to them, the move by the government is timely and will enable them to possess the national identification cards which they have been wishing for ever since.
