MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Police in Monrovia have removed defiant marketers from the Red- Light Market in Paynesville City, outside Monrovia.

Deputy Police Inspector General for Operations, Col. Marvin Sackor, said the market has been officially closed by the Government of Liberia.

Col. Sackor said:” Government has directed all marketers to the Omega Market, to allow contractors continue with the road construction project.”

He told ELBC at the Red-Light that the LNP will sustain its operations because it is bent on public safety.

Col. Sackor said no marketer will be allowed to do retail selling in the area, and warned that violators will face the full weight of the law.

ELBC Reporter who visited the Red-Light said at the time of the police operations, shops and stores were all closed to the public.

Meanwhile, marketers at the Omega Market have welcomed the latest intervention by Government at the Red-Light Market, and specifically credited President George Weah for the step taken.

Speaking to ELBC  Monday, February 7,2022, on behalf of the marketers, the Superintendent of the Omega Central Market, McClain Jallah, said the continue disrespect shown by  defiant marketers at the Red-Light can no longer be condoned.

Mr. Jallah said: “Government has done extremely well by constructing several modern market facilities in Omega, and all building constructed are still empty. Marketers along the streets should move in those structures to avoid future embarrassment.”
