MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Ministry of Labor has ended a one-day symposium aimed at building the capacity of lawyers prosecuting human trafficking cases.

The symposium, which brought together lawyers and stakeholders, took place over the weekend at the Labor Ministry in Congo Town.

Speaking during the symposium, Labor Minister Charles Gibson said the conference was necessary to train lawyers involved with Trafficking in Persons (TIP) cases.

Minister Gibson said:” Lawyers will apply the tools that will make them build strong cases against defendants.”

Cllr. Gibson stressed the important need for lawyers and prosecutors to constantly read and consult in order to enrich the fight against human trafficking in Liberia.

Facilitators at the symposium outlined the differences between trafficking in persons and migrant smuggling, as well as the three elements that constitute TIP.

Also speaking, the Country Manager of International Development Law Organization, Madam Dorah Mafabi, thanked the Labor Ministry and partners for their commitment in the fight against Trafficking in Persons in Liberia.
