We will continue to identify with vulnerable community-Acting Agriculture Minister Forpoh

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Acting Agriculture Minister, Dr. George Forpoh, has reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to identifying with vulnerable groups in the Country.

Dr. Forpoh said:” The Ministry will continue to provide food to the most needy and vulnerable groups, as part of its outreach program.”

He made the commitment on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, after the Ministry donated four-hundred bags of rice to the Monrovia Central Prison.

The Agriculture Ministry’s intervention followed media reports of food shortage at the facility.

Meanwhile, Dr. Forpoh said:” The Ministry will engage the Justice Ministry to inmates across the Country into a farming program.”

At the same time, the Ministry of Justice is proposing the establishment of a new prison facility, to complement the Monrovia Central Prison.

Assistant Justice Minister for Litigation, Wesseh A.  Wesseh, said the Ministry is also exerting efforts de-congest the prison facility.

Minister Wesseh said:” Currently, the Monrovia Central Prison is overcrowded with 1,300 inmates, attributing the situation to the increasing wave of crimes being committed.”

The Assistant Justice Minister said despite efforts to pardon some individuals of lesser crimes, the prison is still recording increase in the number of inmates.
