Gov’t makes frantic effort to begin Gbarnga-Manikoma High Way construction

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberian Government has begun intense discussion with donors to carry out the construction of the entire Gbarnga-Manikoma High Way in Lofa County.

Public Works Minister Ruth Coker Collins said:” The Government is about to reach a fruitful discussion with donors for possible funding opportunity, and the precondition set by donors is for Government to begin the pavement of the Gbarnga-Salayea High Way, has already started.”

Minister Collins said more road projects will be done under the Ministry’s 2022 road construction program.

At the same time, the Acting Public Works Minister has threatened to demolish structures built on allays and drainages across Monrovia and its environs.

Madam Collins said the Ministry will no longer accept the abuse of allay ways and drain ages in Monrovia.

She said the action will begin in 2022.

She said the Ministry will work along the City Corporations of Monrovia and Paynesville, as well as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to carry out the enforcement.

She said the process will be done through dialogue and consultations with affected people.

She spoke on Wednesday, December 22, 2021, when she received the 2021 Most Outstanding Public Servant Award, in Monrovia.

The award was presented by the EC OWAS Civil Society Movement of Liberia, Women Initiative Network of Liberia, Professional Network of Paynesville and the Coalition of Youth and Students for Better Liberia.
