House of Rep. passes 2021 Supplementary Special Budget

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The House of Representatives has passed the 2021 Supplementary Special Budget.

The budget is in the tune of thirteen-million-four-hundred-ninety-eight-thousand United States Dollars.

In a communication to Plenary Thursday, November 25, 2021, President Weah said:” The Supplementary Special Budget is the result of an additional year-end revenue projection.”

He added that the amount captured in the budget will address challenges that have constrained the execution of the approved 2021 Special Budget.

Meanwhile, the instrument has been forwarded to the Liberian Senate for concurrence.

At the same time, the Joint Committee on Ways and Means of the House of Representatives and the Liberian Senate has commenced hearings into the draft 2022 National Budget.

The Chairman of the Joint Committee, Representative Thomas Fallah, said:” Under the revenue component, we are expected to review the policy and provisions, pending approval by Plenary.”

Representative Fallah said the financial instrument will govern Liberia’s expenditure from January to December, in line with amendments to the Public Financial Management Law.

Remarking, Deputy Finance Minister for Fiscal Affairs, Samora Wolokollie, reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring fiscal prudence, as well as sound public financial management.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner General of the Liberian Revenue Authority (LRA), Thomas Doe-Nah, said:” The collaboration between the LRA and the Ministry of Finance will be key determiner to achieving targets of the budget.”
