Liberians commemorate National Thanksgiving Day programs quietly across the nation

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-A Liberian prelate has admonished Liberians to acknowledge the goodness of God, in spite of the situations they are faced with.

The General Overseer of the God’s Family Church International Rev. Sammy David spoke Thursday, November 4, 2021, at programs marking the commemoration of National Thanksgiving Day held at the Greater Refuge Cathedral in Congo Town.

Speaking under the theme: ‘Even though the bread is Little, Give Thanks’, Rev. David encouraged citizens to remain thankful for what the Lord continues to do for the Country.

According to him, God cannot trust those who fail to appreciate his blessings, adding that Liberians should stop complaining and appreciate God for the little.

He, however, reflected on the biblical teachings of Jesus Christ on thanksgiving, citing the story about Jesus feeding the multitude with loaves of bread with two fish.

Thanksgiving Day was enacted by the Liberian Legislature in 1883 as a National holiday to be celebrated as National Holiday throughout the Country.

The commendation of the day is being held throughout Liberia, in line with a Presidential proclamation in consonance with an Act of the National Legislature enacted in 1883, declaring the First Thursday in of November each year as a National Thanksgiving Day.

The proclamation earlier mandated Liberians and foreign residents and the religious community to gather at their various places of Worship, in observance of the day.
