Catholic Relief Services launches Agriculture Sustainability Project

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-An agriculture sustainability project, worth over two-million United States Dollars, has been launched by the Catholic Relief Services (CRS) in Monrovia.

The project, funded by USAID, is expected to target farmers in Bong, Lofa, Nimba and rural Montserrado Counties.

Speaking Monday, October 25, 2021, during the launch of the project in Monrovia, CRS Country Director, Madam Abena Amedormey, said:” The project seeks to increase production and availability of domestically processed rice and cassava.”

Madam Amedormey said improving food and nutrition security, enhancing agriculture productivity and strengthening human and institutional capacities are priority areas the project will address, under the Liberian Government’s Food and Agriculture Policy.

Also speaking, Deputy Agriculture Minister for Planning and Development, Robert Fagans, affirmed the Ministry’s support to the implementation of the project.

Minister Fagans said when successfully implemented, the program will improve food production and ensure food security.

Meanwhile, the Mission Director of SAID, Jim Wright, has called for more support to the huge agriculture potential of the country.

Mr. Wright said:” Liberia is blessed with abundance of water resources, fertile soil and youthful dynamic population to produce more food.”

He said support to agriculture will enable Liberia produce more food, and even export to other countries.

Mr. Jim Wright urged the Liberian Government to design and implement policies that will unlock the Country’s vast agriculture potential.
