Gov’t clarifies report of pending rice shortage

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Government of Liberia has clarified report of imminent of rice shortage to hit the Country soon.

It its Thursday’s publication, the Heritage newspaper quoted  rice importers as saying the Country is to suffer rice shortage, due to increase in transportation.

Reacting to the story, Information Minister Ledgerhood Rennie said contrary to the report, there have sufficient supplies of rice in warehouses at the Free Port of Monrovia.

Minister Rennie said:” The Ministry of Commerce has confirmed that the rice supply on the market is sufficient to last for the next three months, while more supplies are on the way.”

The Information Boss said the Government of Liberia will not compel the newspaper to take down the publication, because it is believed that the Country cannot run out of its staple food.
