MRU Defense Ministers, Chiefs of Defense Staff-Cross Borders meeting begins in Monrovia

MONROVIA, LIBERIA – A high-level regional meeting of minister of defense and chiefs of staff of military has begins Monday, May 24, 2021, in Monrovia.

The two days meeting is being organized by the Mano River Union (MRU) Secretariat and the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS).

According to a release, the Meeting is to enhance cross border cooperation of member states of the MRU region and ensure a common approach to addressing terrorism and other growing security threats especially in the context of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The meeting will also review the gaps in the revived 15th Protocol on Peace, Security, and Defense of the MRU in order to properly position the regional security structure within the framework of current realities in the sub region.

Liberia’s Foreign Dee Maxwell kemanya, and Ambassador Medina Wesseh, Secretary General of the MRU Annadif Khatir Mahamamat Saleh, Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General(SRSG) for West Africa are expected to grace the occasion.
