NCSCL Condemns Chief Iman Ali Krayee, Grand Mufti Sumauru’s Ramadan Dinner remarks

MONROVIA, LIBERIA – The National Civil Society Council of Liberia has expressed concern over remarks attributed to Chief Iman Ali Krayee at a Ramadan Dinner hosted by the City Government of Monrovia.

According to the National Chairperson of the Council, Loretta Pope-Kai, Iman Krayee’s remarks in relations with a call for a Muslim holiday is equivalent to provoking extremism, and undermine the unique religious coexistence Liberia enjoys.

Madam Pope-Kai, in a Press release, Tuesday, May 18, 2021, strongly condemned Chief Iman Krayee’s Sunday May 16, 2021, outburst made at the Monrovia City Hall.

The National Civil Society Council also said the utterances of Chief Iman Krayee was consciously considered and strategically staged to achieve a set goal.

The National Civil Society Council has also offered to work along with the government, the Muslim Community, and the Inter Religious Council of Liberia, to engage relevant stakeholders to create awareness among citizens stay away from any type of indoctrination which might lead to extremism.

The Council in its recommendation is calling on government carryout a systematic security inquiry with regard to the statements issued by Chief Iman Krayee and Grand Mufti Sumauru, so as to maintain national harmony and peaceful coexistence at all level of the society.

The National Civil Society Council also attributed the following statements The National Muslim Council’s Grand Mufti Sumauru as saying: “Liberia will not experience peace if the government refused to grant Muslim a National holiday comes next Ramadan in 2022”.
