Gov., USAID and partners launched five-year ICT Policy

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Government of Liberia, in collaboration with USAID and partners, has launched a five-year ICT Policy.

The policy, which runs from 2019-2024, seeks to support economic development through fully integrated information communication that ensures total economic inclusion for all Liberians.

Serving as Launcher of the Policy, USAID Country Director, Sara Walters, said:” The Policy will expand ICT infrastructure and establish fiber optic backbone, to connect all fifteen county capitals and beyond Liberia’s borders.”

She further said that the policy will use ICT to drive inclusion of women and other marginalized and indigenous groups in the Country.

Delivering special remarks, Post and Telecommunications Minister, Cooper Kruah, said the growth and sustainability of the ICT environment requires an updated policy that encourages all stakeholders to commit to infrastructure development, broadband internet development, human capacity and digital skills.

For his part, Information Minister Ledgerhood Rennie said:” The launch of the program is a great achievement for the Government and people of Liberia.”
