Pres. Weah concludes Land Mediation Meeting

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-A one day land mediation meeting between parties of a land dispute in Ganta, Nimba County, has ended in Monrovia.

The meeting was convened on Thursday, May 6, 2021, by the Ministry of State for Presidential Affairs and chaired by President George Weah, at the Ministerial Complex in Congo Town.

At the meeting, President Weah promised to constitute a committee to discover the main causes of the aged old land dispute, for a long lasting solution.

The Liberian Leader described the situation as troubling, and has the propensity to undermine the peaceful gains made in the Country.

President Weah urged parties to the conflict and their supporters to remain calm, as the Government of Liberia takes seriously the persisting land issues in Nimba County and other counties.

Few weeks ago, a land conflict between the Jabateh, Donzo and Kromah and Suah families injured several persons and destroyed properties in Ganta.

Meanwhile, Nimba County Senator, Prince Johnson, has described as timely the intervention of the Liberian Leader in the land dispute.

Senator Johnson said:” The land dispute has existed for eleven years, and past leaders were unable to resolve it, and the manner and form the eviction order was carried out on the land degenerated the situation into chaos.”

The Nimba County Senator thanked President Weah and the Minister of State for Presidential Affairs, Nathaniel McGill, for initiating the peace talk among conflicting parties.

Also speaking, a Civil Society Leader, Nyan Flomo, clarified that the land dispute is between individuals and not tribal.

Mr. Flomo joined calls by citizens of Nimba County, including the Superintendent, Nelson Korquoi, to find long lasting solution to the problem
