Prez Weah suspends tariff on rice

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President George Weah has suspended import tariff on rice, Liberia’s staple, with immediate effect.

An Executive Mansion release issued on Tuesday, May5,2021, said the issuance of Executive Order Number 105 by the President is in line with Government’s overall desire to continue to bring relief to the Liberian people.

The Executive Order underscores Government’s commitment to ensuring that prices of key commodities remain affordable and not impose unnecessary burden on the people.

In the Executive Order, President Weah said:” Government has conducted an evaluation on the causes of increases in the prices of various strategic commodities, and my administration intends to initiate measures to improve the situation.”

The Liberian Leader said that the measure is intended to ease the economic burden on the citizens and residents to enable access to rice.
