ECOWAS Parliament wants member states government review all international agreements entered into

MONROVIA, LIBERIA -ECOWAS Parliamentarians have adopted a resolution in Liberia calling on member states to review all international agreements entered into by their governments.

The ECOWAS Parliamentarians said a proper review must ensure those agreements do not contain any clause that would have a negative impact on benchmarks and targets for the Sub-region.

The resolution seeks inter-member state cooperation and coordination on the issue of child marriage especially in cases of children who are smuggled from one country to another.

The Sub-regional body wants an organized regional conference on FGM to develop a strong regional policy on the matter, including measures that criminalize its practice and punitive measures for culprits.

The body is also calling for the crafting of a regional affirmative bill on gender parity and to ensure that there is at least one woman from every delegation represented in the Bureaux of Standing Committees.

The resolution also wants a sensitization mission on the need to build the capacities and self-confidence of women.
