Gov’t. begins discussion for the reopening of mining activities at Putu

GRAND GEDEH COUNTY, LIBERIA-The Government of Liberia has begun discussion on the possibility of reopening mining operations at Putu Mountain in Grand Gedeh County.

President George Weah made the disclosure over the weekend at a town hall meeting at the Zwedru City Hall, as part of his nationwide tour.

He said he will hold talks with all relevant authorities, including the National Legislature, Executive and local administration in Grand Gedeh County to have the Putu Mountain reopened.

ELBC Executive Mansion Reporter said that the Liberian Leader was responding to citizens who had pleaded for the reopening of mining activities in the area.

According to our Reporter, the citizens believe that reopening of mining activities would create jobs, and improve the livelihood of the people within the concession communities.

Our Reporter said the President stressed that the Liberian Government wants all requirements to be in place, and commitments upheld to benefit citizens before taking a definite decision.
