First batch of COVID-19 Vaccine expected soon in Liberia

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Liberia has qualified to benefit from nine-hundred-thousand dosages of the second type of the COVID-19 Vaccine, Moderna.

Making the disclosure on Monday, January 11, 2021, in an ELBC interview, Liberia’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Francis Kateh said Liberia qualified through an application to GAVI that was approved for receiving the vaccine.

According to Dr. Kateh, of the one-hundred-thousand dosages of the vaccine, the first consignment of twenty-seven-thousand is expected into the Country by the end of May, with healthcare workers being primary beneficiaries.

He said:” The World Health Organization (WHO) is covering most of the cost of the vaccine.”

Dr. Kateh named pain, chills, swelling, headache and fatigue, among others, as some of the side effects of the vaccine.
