MONROVIA, LIBERIA – A veteran Liberian Economist, Professor Wilson Tarpeh, wants the Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) given exclusive oversight on the Country’s Foreign Exchange.

Prof. Tarpeh said giving the CBL such exclusive oversight would enable the Bank improve the level of non-cash transaction in Liberia.

The former Finance Minister was speaking Tuesday, December 29, 2020, in an interview with ELBC.

Prof. Tarpeh said the CBL is unable to immediately remedy the issue of cash shortage in commercial banks due to lack of direct control over Foreign Exchange.

Meanwhile, Prof. Wilson Tarpeh also wants members of the Legislature approve the printing of additional banknotes upon their return in January.

The Liberian economist assured that such move would end the financial crisis Liberia is being faced with.
