Press Union Pres. wants media practitioners to exhibit professionalism during elections

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The President of the Press Union of Liberia, Charles Coffey, wants  media practitioners  ensure  accurate, balanced  and professional reportage during coverage of the December 8 Elections.

Speaking Monday, December 7, 2020, in a ELBC interview ahead of Tuesday’s elections, the PUL Boss said Journalists covering the elections must not report election results that are unauthorized by the National Elections Commission, as the Commission is the only institution clothed with the authority to announce official results from elections.

According to Mr. Coffey, providing unapproved    information has the tendency of influencing supporter from both sides to claim victory that could lead to chaos.

Mr. Coffey also admonished media practitioners to cultivate proper deportment in the exercise of their duties.

Meanwhile, the PUL Boss is calling for mutual respect between State Security forces and media practitioners, noting that there should be no impediment for Journalists while they execute their professional duties.
