New Beach Project for Liberia Soon

Monrovia, Liberia – A 42-thousand square meter land space has been secured by government for the construction of the President George Weah beach project in Monrovia.

The project will be funded by the Abu Dhabi Fund and implemented by the government of Liberia around the PHP community in central Monrovia.

According to the Minister of State without Portfolio, Trokon Kpui the United Arab Emirates, UAE has already given a grant of 5-Million United States dollars for the implementation of the project.

Speaking to the Liberia News Agency Thursday, Minister Kpui said the UAE is expected to choose and award the contract to a company by end of September this year.

He said actual works on the project are also expected to begin in early November 2020 and will run up to August of 2021 before it is opened to the public.

Minister Kpui assured the Liberian public that no cent from the National budget will be used for the implementation of the Weah Beach project, as all funds for the project have been secured.

According to the Minister of State without Portfolio, the vetting of project consultants and contractor were done exclusively by the UAE to ensure transparency.

He said the signing of the agreement with the UAE followed the visit of President George Manneh Weah to the Arab State back in 2019.

Minister Kpui maintained that the project will be monitored by the United Arab Emirates as enshrined in the agreement.

He said the contracting company to be awarded the project is a Liberian based company, to ensure that Liberians are not spectators in the economy.
