SANNIQUELLIE, NIMBA COUNTY,LIBERIA-Three Nimba County Lawmakers have threatened court action against the election of officials of the County’s Project Management Committee.
The Lawmakers, including Samuel Kogar, Larry Yanquoi and Prince Tokpah, have expressed dismay over the electoral process that saw the officials elected at the 8th Session of the County Sitting, over the weekend.
ELBC Upper Nimba County Correspondent said:” The Chairman of the Nimba Legislative Caucus and presiding officer at the sitting, Senator Prince Johnson, instituted a head-count method for the election, something that sparked the disenchantment.”
According to our Correspondent, the three lawmakers and other delegates at the sitting disagreed with the head-count method and opted for secret ballot, but Senator Johnson insisted on the head-count.
Our Correspondent said:” The situation led to the Lawmakers walking out of the Sanniquellie City Hall, where the County Sitting was held and threatened court action to reverse the result of the election.”
Meanwhile, the Nimba County Council is reviewing a budget of two-point-seven-million United States Dollars for development projects in the County for one year.
The County Superintendent, Nelson Korquoi, submitted the budget to the Council at the 8th Session of the County Sitting over the weekend.
Our Upper Nimba County Correspondent said:” The budget targets repair and maintenance of earth moving equipment and several road works in the County.
According to our Correspondent, the budget seeks to fund the renovation of the superintendents’ compounds, and other ongoing projects under the Project Management Committee.
The money will also fund scholarship for Nimba County students, provide for improved livelihood of the people with disabilities and assist mining affected communities.
In a related development, Nimba County District 8 Representative, Larry Nyonquoi, has reminded Citizens of the District that unity is critical to the development of the area.
Representative Nyonquoi, however, urged the people to put aside their differences and unite in the interest of the District.
The Nimba County Lawmaker’s statement is in reaction to the legal battle that surrounded his re-election in 2017, creating hard feelings amongst citizens of the District.
Representative Nyonquoi said:” Money allotted for the District, at the just ended County sitting, can only be utilized for development if citizens of the area hold together. By Jarp Davies
