Senate approves State of Emergency extension

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberian Senate has approved the extension of the State of Emergency, as requested by President George Weah.

President George Weah, in a communication to the Liberian Senate on June 29, 2020, requested for a thirty-day extension of the State of Emergency due to the rise of COVID-19 infection in Liberia.

According to a statement issued by the Liberian Senate recently, members of the Upper House said the President’s request is in the best interest of the Liberian people.

The Senate, in keeping with the Constitution of Liberia and Legislative Principles, signed a Joint Resolution and forwarded it to the House of Representatives for concurrence vote.

Signing the Joint Resolution along with two-third of the Senate Membership, the Senate Pro-Tempore, Albert Chie, thanked members of the Legislature for the commitment to public service.
