Liberia records additional two COVID-19 cases totaling 770

MONROVIA-LIBERIA has recorded two new Coronavirus cases, bringing the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases to seven-hundred-seventy.

The report named Montserrado and Nimba Counties as places the new cases have been reported.

The Incident Management Team’s Monday, JUNE 29, 2020, situation report also recorded two new deaths, while fourteen new recoveries have also been recorded.

The total death toll stands at thirty-six and recovery is at three-hundred-twelve.

The report added that four-hundred-twenty-two active cases are currently in the Treatment Center, while one-hundred-ninety-eight contacts are being followed up.

Meanwhile, Deputy Finance Minister for Fiscal Affairs has outlined the negative effects of COVID-19 on Liberia.

Minister Samora Wollokollie named the disruption of trade and investment, reduction in social spending and increase in poverty among others.

Speaking Monday, June 29, 2020, at the Special Edward Wilmot Blyden Forum organized by the Press Union of Liberia (PUL), Minister Wollokollie said:” Government is focusing on immediate priorities, and implementing reforms to boost resilience beyond the crisis.”

He told the gathering that beyond international travel restrictions and stimulus for businesses, the Liberian Government is exerting efforts to protect vulnerable households.

According to Minister Wollokollie, through targeted tax incentives, social transfers and regulatory support, Government focuses on minimizing the impact of COVID-19 on the most vulnerable businesses and citizens.
