Calm returns to Sand Beach in Rivercess County-Gov. says

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Government of Liberia says calm has returned to the mining region of Sand Beach in Rivercess County, following clashes between Nimbaians and residents of the County.

It followed mediation efforts by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Legislative causes of Rivercess and Nimba Counties.

One person died following clashes between the two groups.

Internal Affairs Minister Varney Sirleaf made the disclosure Sunday, June 7, 2020, in an ELBC interview.

Minister Sirleaf praised the Rivercess and Nimba Counties causes for their intervention in the resolution of the conflict and restoration of sanity in the area.

He further blamed the situation on the lack of civil authority in the Sand Beach area, but assured the people of Government’s plan of establishing civil authority soon.
