MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Nimba County District Two Representative, Nyan Flomo, says efforts to amend the Kamara A. Kamara (KAK) Act of Press Freedom are squarely intended to strengthen journalism in Liberia.
Representative Flomo said,” The proposed amendment, which seeks to restrict profanity and regulate online content, does not undermine the KAK Act, but aims to promote ethical standards within the profession”.
Speaking with ELBC on Monday, April 6, 2026, Representative Flomo warned that journalism in Liberia risks declining if stricter measures are not introduced.
The one-time community radio broadcaster noted that journalism in Liberia is increasingly being undermined by what he described as ‘bad elements.
The Press Union of Liberia (PUL) has since rejected the proposed amendment, describing it as a threat to freedom of speech and expression in the community.
