MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President Joseph Boakai has nominated Jonathan Weedor as Chairman of the National Elections Commission (NEC), following the resignation of Madam Davidetta Browne-Lansanah.
Recently, NEC Chairperson, Davidetta Browne-Lansanah, resigned and was asked by President Boakai to continue overseeing the institution until a possible replacement is made.
An Executive Mansion release says the nomination marks a significant leadership transition at the country’s electoral body, which plays a critical role in maintaining Liberia’s democratic process.
The release noted that Weedor brings a wealth of experience in electoral administration, governance, and public service.
President Boakai has directed Weedor to act in the position until the Liberian Senate returns from its break and conducts a confirmation hearing for him.
The President has, at the same time, expressed confidence in Jonathan Weedor’s competence and professionalism, noting that his leadership is expected to uphold transparency, independence, and credibility in Liberia’s electoral system.
