MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Chief Justice of Liberia, Yamie Gbeisay, has emphasized the importance of integrity in the practice of the legal profession in the country.
Chief Justice Gbeisay said,” Integrity is what drives the profession to noble heights, not degree earned”.
He spoke over the weekend when he addressed law students at the 2026 Dean’s Dinner of the Louise Arthur Grimes School of Law.
Chief Justice Gbeisay then urged the students to always read their cases and visit the courts frequently to familiarize themselves with courtroom practice.
The Chief Justice said,” The Judiciary has initiated discussions with the President and administration of the University of Liberia to improve the standard of teaching and learning at the Louise Arthur Grimes School of Law”.
At the same time, the Dean of the Louise Arthur Grimes School of Law has warned against politicizing the country’s prestigious law school.
Cllr. Dr. Niveda Ricks Nnuoha stressed that there is a thin line between law and politics, urging students to be technocrats and critical thinkers.
Cllr. Nnuoha wants law students to always uphold the integrity of the institution, instead of burying the school’s name in dirt.
She rallied the students to help the school produce good lawyers by being dutiful, cooperative, and submissive to rules governing the institution.
