MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The National Port Authority (NPA) has been selected to participate in the European Union’s Scope Africa Initiative.
The Minister of Information, Jerolinmek Piah, said,” The initiative is aimed at strengthening safety and security at major ports in West and Central Africa”.
Speaking at the Ministry of Information Regular Press Briefing on Thursday, March 12, 2026, in Monrovia, Minister Piah said the program, which is funded by the EU, will also help to strengthen transport corridors across the region and improve trade and maritime cooperation.
He said under the program, more than twenty-five Liberian port security officers will receive specialized training that focuses on improving port safety and governance.
The information ministry boss said,” Liberia’s participation will enhance the country’s port management capacity, and the program will also support regional economic growth”.
At the same time, the Government of Liberia says diplomatic efforts are going to resolve tensions at the Liberia-Guinea border.
According to Minister Piah, the discussions involve regional partners, including ECOWAS and the Mano River Union.
He disclosed that a high-level Liberian delegation will travel to Guinea and is expected to continue diplomatic dialogue between the two countries.
The Liberian Information Minister also noted that the government is investigating a recent shooting incident at the border that left a Liberian citizen injured.
In another development, the government of Liberia says it is preparing to deploy the newly arrived yellow machines for good maintenance.
Minister Piah further said the machines will help maintain roads across the country.
According to him, the goal is to ensure that roads remain usable during the rainy season, and road works are already continuing in several parts of the country, and progress has been recorded on the Robertsport Road corridor.
Information Minister Jerolinmek Piah then added that the government remains committed to improving road connectivity across Liberia.
