MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The National Food Assistance Agency (NFAA) has officially launched its Five-year strategic plan.
The plan, which runs from 2026 to 2030, aims at strengthening the NFAA’s operational, technical, and administrative capacity to effectively address food security in the country.
National Food Assistance Agency Director General, Borkai Sirleaf, highlighted that the plan focuses on diversifying food donations and aligns with the government’s agriculture agenda.
The NFAA DG stressed that the plan emphasizes integrity and inclusion, addressing the fact that 5.5 million of the population live in abject poverty.
DG Sirleaf called on development partners and all stakeholders to support the agency as the last mile in food distribution.
Meanwhile, National Food Assistance Agency Deputy Director General for Administration, Bob Kartoe, presenting the overview, states that the plan focuses on four priorities, which include institutional capacity, food security, nutrition, and partnerships.
Mr. Kartoe said,” The launch of the document signaled a shift from reactive to proactive, resilient food assistance, hence calling for disciplined implementation and accountability”.
Launching the document on behalf of Agriculture Minister Alexander Nuetah, Deputy Agriculture Minister for Planning and Development, David Akoi, said the launch of the NFAA strategic plan is important in achieving SDG two which talks of zero hunger.
The Deputy Minister highlighted the need for a strong monitoring and evaluation process to ensure full implementation of the pathway to zero hunger.
At the same time, Ambassador Charles Snetter, on behalf of President Joseph Boakai, lauded the NFAA for the launch of the document.
Ambassador Snetter expressed optimism that the aim of the plan is achieved to ensure zero hunger in the country.
Partners and representatives of various coordinating ministries and agencies, in different remarks, pledged their continuous support to the NFAA mandate.
The event was graced by officials of various ministries, legislature, and agencies, including the Ministries of Agriculture, Education, Health, Justice, Finance, the UNDP, Mary Meals, Food Authority of Liberia, and the National Commission on Disability, among others.
