Liberian Senate, Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence, has highlighted the need for increased investment in TVET infrastructure and modern laboratories across Liberia.

Pro-Tempore Karnga-Lawrence said,” Public-private partnerships, innovation hubs, and incubation centers are essential for industrial attachment and innovation”.

The Grand Bassa County Senator also reaffirmed the Senate’s Commitment to strengthening technical and vocational education across the country.

She made the statement over the weekend when she served as Keynote Speaker at the Booker Washington Institute (BWI) 74TH Graduation exercise in Kakata, Margibi County.

Senator Karnga-Lawrence reminded the graduates of their responsibility to carry discipline, integrity, professionalism, and patriotism wherever they go.

Meanwhile, the Senate Pro-Tempore outlined the importance of investing in technical education for stability, productivity, and national resilience.

At the same time, Agriculture Minister, Dr. Alexander Nuetah, said the ministry is open to providing internship opportunities and practical training for graduates of the BWI Agriculture Department.

Dr. Nuetah stated that the goal is to prepare graduates for future opportunities in the Agriculture Sector, and enable them contribute meaningfully to the growth of the country.

The agriculture minister pledged to provide scholarship opportunities to the valedictorians of the Agriculture Department at various universities in Liberia.

He said that the graduates are prepared to contribute to the transformation of the country’s Agriculture Sector and ensure Liberians become capable of feeding themselves.

Minister Alexander Nuetah, however, reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to supporting the Agricultural Community of the country.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the BWI, Isaac Stevens, wants the Liberian Government increase the institution’s budget to upgrade trade shops and equipment to global standards.

According to Stevens, such investment will help move traditional methods to modern technological innovation.

He stressed the importance of adequately compensating faculty and staff to maintain excellence.

The BWI Board Chair emphasized that President Joseph Boakai’s vision and the collaboration of the Ministry of Education and the Liberian Senate, to elevate the BWI to a technical college.

The transformation, he said, includes maintaining the high school as a premier feeder program to the college, while expressing optimism that the bill will pass in the first half of 2026.
