MONROVIA, LIBERIA-APM Terminals-Liberia has announced a major reduction in rice handling charges and the introduction of modern discharge methods at the Free Port of Monrovia.
According to a release, the move aims to ease logistics costs across Liberia’s rice supply chain.
The release noted that the measure includes a 4.73 percent adjustment to selected port service charges linked to rice handling, alongside incentives designed to encourage faster discharge and more efficient cargo movement.
Importers shipping rice in break bulk vessels can benefit from a five-dollar-per-ton handling discount when rice is delivered pre-slung in jumbo bags.
APM Terminals-Liberia says the shift toward modern discharge methods aims to improve vessel turnaround, reducing avoidable delays, and lowering demurrage exposure for importers.
The initiative, which is expected to run throughout this year, is intended to support smoother cargo flow and improved port efficiency for one of Liberia’s most essential staple commodities.
