MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Ministry of Education (MOE) has launched its “Science Kit–Lab in a Box” initiative, a groundbreaking program designed to transform science learning across Liberia.
The launch took place on November 20, 2025, at the Paynesville Community School-PCS in Paynesville, bringing together distinguished officials, partners, educators, parents, and students.
The initiative is considered a major step in addressing the scarcity of science resources in schools and ensuring that every child, regardless of location, has access to hands-on scientific exploration.
Speaking at the program, Education Minister, Dr. Jarso Jallah, emphasized that science is not a luxury subject, but a survival skill, a development strategy, and a direct pathway to national dignity.
She noted that no nation becomes prosperous by accident, but through teaching children not just what to think, but how to think, solve problems, and connect knowledge to the world outside the classroom.
Dr. Jallah highlighted that for generations, Liberian students have been forced to memorize diagrams and definitions without ever experiencing practical experiments, while teachers have persevered with little more than chalk and hope.
In a related development, Montserrado District-One County Education Officer, Amanda Zota, has described the Ministry of Education’s new initiative “Science Lab in a Box” as a gateway to equity learning.
CEO Zota emphasized that the project is more than a tool; it is hope-packed in a kit, designed to inspire and empower students regardless of their location or resources.
She highlighted the significance of the innovation as a vision brought to life under the leadership of Education Minister Jarso Jallah.
According to her, the Minister’s commitment to equity ensures science is not a privilege for a few, but a right for all learners.
CEO Amanda Zota further stressed that the initiative reflects the Ministry’s dedication to nurturing curiosity and opportunity.
She said the Science Lab in a Box will shape minds, careers, and futures by unlocking the potential of Liberia’s youth, while echoing far beyond classrooms into communities nationwide.
