MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Several recommendations aimed at strengthening Liberia’s Forest Sector have emerged from the just-ended Forest Forum organized by the Forestry Development Authority (FDA) in Monrovia.
The three-day forum was convened under the theme:” Leveraging Liberia’s Forest for economic, social, and environmental sustainability”.
The participants recommended increasing financial, technical, and logistical support for commercial forestry to enforce and monitor forest laws.
They also want land conflicts to be resolved through legal review and national land use planning for effective coordination at the community level.
The FDA was also asked to ensure institutional balance in the implementation of the 4C mandate to benefit local communities.
The Executive Director for Integrated Development and Learning, Sillas Siakor, urged development partners to increase support for the Forest Sector.
Siakor stressed the need to strengthen law enforcement and accountability of community forestry.
