MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Education Minister, Dr. Jarso Jallah, has emphasized the importance of improving teachers’ training and curriculum reform to boost Liberia’s Education System.
Minister Jallah stressed that quality teachers are key to a good education system and called for professionalizing the teaching workforce.
The education minister made the statement at the start of a six-day Early Childhood Education Teacher Training Curriculum Revision and Alignment Workshop in Kakata on Monday, October 13, 2025, in Margibi County.
She highlighted the need for collective effort, better resources, and stronger policies to prepare teachers for the classroom.
Minister Jallah said,” Liberia’s literacy rate is only forty-eight percent, with many children unable to read and write, which hinders national development”.
She also praised the ongoing partnership with the European Union and the Regional Teacher Initiative for Africa (RTIA), which is funding the project.
The program aims to reform pre-service teacher curricula, build capacity in rural areas, and develop policies for teachers’ recruitment and deployment.
A lecturer at Jyväskylä University in Finland, Dr. Kati Maenpaa, stated that providing opportunities for every child is the true meaning of quality education.
She emphasized the importance of inclusive learning environments that prepare students for the future.
Speaking at the start of the curriculum review workshop, she highlighted that improving education is a long and ongoing process because the world changes rapidly.
Dr. Maenpaa stressed that Liberia is actively reviewing its curriculum to meet future demands, while praising the country’s efforts to make education more inclusive.
She added that adjustments may be needed as the program moves forward, and urged everyone to follow the established protocol.
