University of Liberia Ends Month-Long Holiday Tech Camp…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-UNDP and the University of Liberia have ended a month-long Holiday Tech Camp for sixty young Liberians, especially primary and secondary students, at the UniPod Headquarters in Fendell.

The program seeks to bridge the digital divide by introducing young learners to STEM-based education through hands-on and engaging activities.

The initiative commenced on July 21, 2025, targeted children aged seven to seventeen, from primary to secondary school levels, under the theme: “Empowering the Next Generation of Tech Innovators.”

The closing ceremony brought together dignitaries, including UL President, Dr. Layli Maparyan and team, UNDP Resident Representative Aliou Dia, and parents, among others.

Presenting the welcoming remark, the University of Liberia Vice President for Institutional Development and Planning, Madam Wadea Boley, said,” The program began with sixty students but ended with over fifty students due to the illness of some of the students”.

She noted that UniPod, through the University of Liberia, is committed to collaborating with partners to ensure the next generation of tech innovators is empowered.

Speaking during the ceremony, UNDP Resident Representative Aliou Dia thanked the University of Liberia and collaborating partners for helping build the capacity of the children.

During his presentation, Mr. Dia gave the history of the event and disclosed that the idea all started in Cameroon with the project consultant, only identified as Nerves.

He urged UL to work with UNDP to ensure the initiative is extended to other parts of the country, something he said will explore the knowledge of the young Liberians in these areas.

Harnessing the skills of young Liberians remains a major concern for the government and the University of Liberia, especially in STEM-based Education.

For UL President Dr. Layli Maparyan, collaboration among the students is the surest way for they can harness their skills in achieving more opportunities.

Dr. Maparyan encouraged the students and parents that the University of Liberia remains open to the participants for further practice. She also wants parents to support their kids through the purchase of machines that will help to improve their skills at home and school.

Meanwhile, the students expressed appreciation to UNDP, Orange Liberia, the University of Liberia, and UniPod for providing them with such a valuable opportunity.

With this knowledge acquired, benefiting students will now have a basic understanding of STEM-based education and how it brightens their futures.
