MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The United Methodist Church (UMC) of Liberia says it has no intention of indoctrinating same sex marriage, as widely speculated by the public over the past months.
UMC Communications Director, Edwin Benson, said, “The church has not endorsed same sex marriage in Liberia, and the publication is a way of tarnishing the church’s reputation”.
According to him, though there is a current wrangling in the UMC globally regarding the amendment of some social principles, the church in Liberia has yet to endorse such principles.
Benson disclosed that by December this year, the UMC in Liberia will publish its book of disciplines, amending several social principles that do not align with the church’s mission in Liberia.
Meanwhile, the Officer-In-Charge for development in Liberia of the UMC in Liberia, Adolphus Dukuly, said,” The church is more focused on implementing developmental initiatives in Liberia”.
Dukuly told ELBC on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, that the church has carried out several social initiatives as part of its outreach in the country, ranging from the construction of schools and health facilities, among others.
