MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Former Montserrado County Representative Hassan Kiazulu says resource mobilization is a skill that requires narrowing the fiscal space of Liberia, leading the transformation of Monrovia.
Kiazulu wants authorities at the Monrovia City Corporation (MCC) to complement national allocations with strategic local revenue generation to realize such a transformation.
He is, at the same time, encouraging government ministries and agencies to coordinate with the MCC as a means of redirecting the many challenges in Monrovia and its residents.
Former Representative Kiazulu spoke on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, when he served as a proxy for Finance Minister Augustine Ngafuan at the start of a two-day policy dialogue.
The dialogue was organized by the Governance Commission in alliance with the Internal Affairs Ministry and the Monrovia City Corporation.
The dialogue has been held under the theme:” Improving Monrovia City Administration through Effective Leadership, Proper Coordination and Resource Mobilization”.
In a related development, the Governance Commission Acting Chairman Alaric Tokpa has stressed the need to rebuild Monrovia that is inclusive, resilient, and responsive for lasting development.
Prof. Tokpa wants Monrovia to be repositioned in the decentralized government system to put it on par with other modern cities around the world.
He indicated that the two-day dialogue is a deliberate and strategic intervention to generate the decision to reform the City of Monrovia.
Meanwhile, Monrovia City Mayor, John Siafa, said, “Unclear boundary disputes over service and administrative authority are a huge challenge that weakens planning and wastes the resources of Monrovia City Government”.
Mayor Siafa also disclosed that weak institutions and policy fragmentations are some of the challenges associated with service and waste deliveries for the MCC.
