MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Grand Jury for Montserrado County has finally indicted former House Speaker Fonati Koffa and fourteen others in connection with the alleged burning of the Capitol on December 18, last year.
The defendants’ unsealed indictments were revealed to them on Wednesday, July 2, at Criminal Court ‘A’ at the Temple of Justice.
Those indicted include Kivi Bah, alias Kaba; Jerry Pokah, alias Tyrese; Stephen Broh; John Nyanti; Dixon Seeboe; and Cllr. Fonati Koffa, Patience Bestman, Harrislyn Grace Johnson, Abu Kamara, Jacob Deebee, Christian Koffa, Amos Koffa, Eric Susay, and Thomas Etheridge, with others to be identified.
The defendants’ charges range from criminal attempt to commit, criminal mischief, criminal conspiracy, criminal facilitation, criminal solicitation, reckless burning or exploiting, and recklessly endangering another person, among others.
With the indictments being served, this paves the way for trial proceedings during the August Term of Court before Criminal Court ‘A’.
Last Thursday, the Monrovia City Court granted criminal appearance bonds for the defendants, and following the decision, the Clerk of the Court was instructed to forward the case to the First Judicial Circuit for prosecution.
