One of the oldest existing football clubs in Liberia, Jubilee FC, have taken the Liberia Football Association to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Jubilee FC, popularly known as the “Church Boys,” recently ran to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, following their relegation to the LFA 3rd division.
The Liberia Football Association (LFA), over a month ago, relegated Jubilee FC from the LFA 2nd Division to the 3rd Division for submitting fraudulent documentation during their registration for the league.
The LFA had earlier imposed a fine of $10,000 United States dollars on the club in keeping with the local Football House’s league regulation.
Jubilee accepted the fine and made part payment, but failed to complete the payment in time, despite a number of deadlines. This led to their relegation by the LFA Statutes.
Jubilee rejected the relegation decision by the LFA and took an appeal, but the appeal did not favor the Church Boys.
They decided to take the matter to the CAS to overturn the LFA decision.
Jubilee FC, rejecting the LFA’s decision, said “the action was a procedurally flawed and legally unenforceable decision”.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport has since acknowledged receipt of Jubilee FC’s appeal and has contracted the Liberia Football Association for its response.
The Liberia Football Association has yet to respond to the CAS inquiry.
Jubilee FC won promotion from the LFA 1st division from the 2nd division just before the axe was released on the club, after failing to pay their fine in time.
