MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Supreme Court of Liberia has assigned the alleged corruption case involving former Finance Minister Samuel Tweah and four others for argument following four months of delay, through a notice of assignment to the parties’ lawyers.
The Court’s June 24 Notice of Assignment is demanding that the parties’ lawyers appear on July 1 before the Full Bench for arguments.
Before the Court’s decision, Associate Justice Ceainaeh Clinton Johnson halted the case of defendant Samuel Tweah and others at Criminal Court C, after the defendants’ lawyer filed a petition for a Writ of Prohibition.
Cllr. Arthur Johnson’s request to the Supreme Court questioned the indictment of the prosecuting lawyers because his clients were wrongfully implicated for allegedly stealing over six million United States dollars and billions of Liberian dollars.
Cllr. Johnson further claimed that his clients’ action regarding the amount was under the instruction of former President George Weah and the National Security Council, contrary to the State Lawyers’ indictment, because they are immune from prosecution as provided by Article 61 of the 1986 Constitution of Liberia.
Those indicted are Samuel Tweah, former Finance Minister, Cllr. Nyenati Tuan, former Solicitor General, Stanley Ford, former Director of the Finance Intelligence Agency, Moses Cooper, former Comptroller of the Financial Intelligence Agency, and Jefferson Karmoh, former National Security Advisor.
