MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Circuit Courts across the country have ended their legal businesses for the February Term, and will reopen on May 12, consistent with Chapter 3, Section 3.3 of the Judiciary Law of Liberia, following the end of a forty-two-day jurors sitting on Wednesday, April 2.
The closure of circuit courts means that they will operate in Chamber sessions, and can only dispose of matters on motion and not full litigation, as provided for by law.
But the 6th Judicial Circuit Court, known as the Civil Law Court, and all specialized courts are excluded from the February Term closure.
The February Term conclusion will also witness Chief Justice Sie-A-Nyeneh Yuoh releasing her legal assignments for the May and June Terms for circuit court Judges in a couple of days, as she inches closer to her departure from the Judiciary on June 26, and could be her final legal assignments.
Justice Yuoh has since announced her pending departure as Head of the Judiciary, when she reaches the age of 70 on June 26, consistent with Article 72(b) of the 1986 Constitution of Liberia.
The Chief Justice is on record for announcing her legal assignments for judges months ahead of the opening of a new term, consistent with Chapter 3, Section 3.8 of the Judiciary Law of Liberia.
