Liberia’s Supreme Court Justice Clinton Johnson Issues Alternative Writ of Prohibition…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Presiding Justice in Chambers at the Supreme Court of Liberia has issued the alternative Writ of Prohibition as prayed for by lawyers representing former Finance Minister Samuel Tweah and four others in the alleged corruption case at Criminal Court ‘C’.

Associate Justice Ceinah Clinton Johnson’s legal conference with prosecuting and defense lawyers on Monday, March 10, 2025, was convinced by the defense lawyers’ petition, thus issuing the alternative writ.

Justice Clinton’s writ also instructed the government‘s lawyers to file their returns on or before March 20, 2025, to the Court to get set for arguments before the Full Bench as provided for by law.

The action by the Presiding Justice in Chambers means that Judge Roosevelt Willie has been prohibited from proceeding with the matter involving the former government officials.

Justice Clinton Johnson’s decision resulted from a petition filed by defense lawyers to prevent Judge Willie from hearing their clients’ cases at Criminal Court ‘C’ after Judge Roosevelt Willie denied their motion to dismiss the case.

Cllr. Arthur Johnson, who is Tweah’s lawyer, has since argued that his client and others acted under the scope and instruction of former President George Weah and the National Security Council due to national threats, and as such, they are immune from prosecution under Article 61 of the 1986 Constitution of Liberia.
