Pres. Boakai Issues Directive to Temporarily Lift Moratorium…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President Joseph Boakai has issued a directive temporarily lifting the moratorium placed on the exportation of Heavy Metal Sand-HMS.

According to President Boakai, the decision is intended to allow licensed HMS exporters to clear their goods out of Liberia within sixty days.

An Executive Mansion release issued recently also disclosed that the goal is to ensure future HMS exports comply with the country’s updated regulations recently released by the Ministry of Mines and Energy.

The regulations, when enforced, HMS mining licenses will be limited to three operators to enhance oversight and ensure effective revenue generation.

It also mandates HMS exporters to pay an increased royalty of eight percent, from three percent, to ensure equitable distribution of natural resource revenues.

Meanwhile, President Joseph Boakai reaffirmed the Government of Liberia’s dedication to promoting sustainable and transparent resource management practices.
