Liberia Council of Churches Condemns Fire Bout at Capitol

MONROVIA, The Liberia Council of Churches (LCC) has condemned Wednesday’s fire attack on the Capitol in Monrovia.

The LCC’s Secretary General, Christopher Toe, said:” The Council views such incident as a grave affront to democracy and urged the Ministry of Justice, through the Liberian National Police and Fire Service, to immediately conduct a thorough investigation, and those responsible be held accountable.”

Addressing a press conference in Monrovia on Wednesday, Reverend called on all Liberians to reject the undermined public institutions built with taxpayers’ contributions and international support, adding that Liberia’s progress depends on unity, recovery, and reconciliation, free of hate, deceit, and self-interest.

Meanwhile, the Civil Society Human Rights Advocacy Platform of Liberia has expressed concern about the burning and destruction of a portion of the Capitol, saying such acts of violence and lawlessness have no place in a democratic society and only intended to further polarize the country’s already fragile political landscape.

According to Adama Dempster, all stakeholders must prioritize dialogue, respect for the rule of law, and adherence to democratic principles to resolve differences and move Liberia forward.
