Justice Gbeisay Places Stay Order on Proceedings at Criminal Court ‘C’…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Presiding Justice in Chambers, Associate Justice Yamie Gbeisay, has placed a Stay Order on the proceedings at Criminal Court C, involving former Finance Minister Samuel Tweah and four others.

The Stay Order was a result of a Writ of Certiorari filed by the Ministry of Justice against Criminal Court C Judge, Blamo Dixon, regarding the manner and form in which he proceeded with the case when he granted the bond of the five former government officials.

A Writ of Certiorari is a court process seeking a review of a lower court’s proceeding. It also allows parties who are not satisfied with the decision of a lower court to seek the Supreme Court’s intervention to hear or review such a decision.

Justice Gbeisay’s order comes at a time when the subordinate court was scheduled to read the indictment to former Minister Tweah and others on Wednesday, December 3, 2024, to ascertain their plea, as provided for by law.

The five former officials, Samuel Tweah, Nyenati Tuan, Moses Cooper, Stanley Ford, and Jefferson Karmoh, were indicted by the Government of Liberia for allegedly stealing over six million US Dollars.

Meanwhile, the conference is slated for December 10, in the Chambers of Associate Justice Yamie Gbeisay.
