Sen. Committee Chair on Defense, Intelligence, Security, Veterans Affairs Launches Investigation…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Defense, Intelligence, Security and Veterans Affairs has launched an investigation into the leakage of confidential documents from the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL).

It can be recalled that a communication from the Headquarters of the AFL appealing to personnel of the Army on the reported delay of salaries was seen on social media.

In an ELBC interview on Thursday, October 31,2024, the Chairman of the Committee, Momo Cyrus, said:” The document is confidential and its presence in the public domain needs investigation.”

The Lofa County Senator noted that the Committee will ensure that the perpetrator behind the leakage of the document is brought to book.

Senator Momo Cyrus added that this will serve as deterrent and stop the recurrence of such behavior in the future.

At the same time, the Liberian Senate has cited the Director General of the General Services Agency (GSA), Galapkah Kortima, to appear before its Committee on Ways, Means, Finance, Judiciary and Autonomous Commission to provide clarity on the Government’s alleged new policy on purchased vehicles for officials.

It followed communication from Grand Gedeh County Senator, Thomas Yaya Nimely, seeking Plenary intervention to investigate the new policy which calls for the purchase of vehicles at the cost of sixty-five thousand US Dollars for ministers and fifty thousand US Dollars

He noted that the disclosure made by Mr. Kortima needs more explanation, as the budget law requires that the ceiling for the purchase of Government’s vehicles is forty-five thousand US Dollars.

The GSA Director General has also been requested to come along with a statistic of the number of vehicles already been purchased for ministers and deputies at the current price.
