“Women, girls, children will be affected most due to the lack of allotment in the 2024 Budget for WASH Sector”-Rep. William

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The House of Representatives Standing Committee Chair on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), says women, girls, and children stand to be affected most due to the lack of allotment in the 2024 Budget for the Sector.

Representative Anthony William said:” Most health centers, especially in rural Liberia; have no water supply, thus making child delivery difficult.”

He indicated that the act undermines the Government’s ARREST agenda that stresses Agriculture, Road, Education, Sanitation, and Tourism, adding that it further discourages Liberian and international partners who contribute to the Sector.

The House’s WASH Committee Co-chairman, Thomas Goshua, also pointed out the Senate leadership’s alleged lack of interest in the WASH sector, which is affecting poor people in the countryside.

He noted that every child delivery and females’ menstruation management have become practically impossible, because of the lack of water in health facilities and schools across Liberia.

They spoke recently at a panel discussion on the improvement of the WASH Sector in Whede Town, Lower Careysburg, and Montserrado County.
