Pres. Boakai Calls for Unity in West African Regional Bloc

NEW YORK, USA-President Joseph Boakai has called for unity in the West African Regional Bloc, ECOWAS, and opposed efforts to disintegrate the body.

President Boakai said:” The Organization will not accept the region being used for proxy conflicts, but a haven for peace and tranquility.”

He appealed for the support of the African Union and the UN in keeping the regional body united.

The Liberian Leader also called for an immediate ceasefire in the Middle East to provide civilians with essential humanitarian relief.

President Boakai urged both the Israelis and Palestinians to engage in negotiations toward lasting peace, including a two-state solution.

The President was speaking on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at the 79th Session of the UN General Assembly in New York, the United States.

Meanwhile, President Boakai said Liberia is dedicated to assessing the levels and causes of poverty and implementing strategies to reduce such menace and the promotion of shared prosperity.

He said:” To achieve this, feat, the Government remains prepared to work with the UN, International Community, and other global allies to establish a fair, peaceful, and sustainable world.”

According to the Liberian Leader, the promotion of sustainable growth and ensuring human dignity is essential to the progress of any thriving society.

The event is being held under the theme:” Unity in Diversity for the Advancement of Peace, Sustainable Development and Human Dignity for Everyone, Everywhere.”
